Job Description

Functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, and training and in compliance with regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines. Assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment. Supports the FMCNA commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI Activities, including those related to patient satisfaction and actively participates in process improvement activities that enhance the likelihood that patients will achieve the FMC Quality Enhancement Goals (QEP).Principal duties include staff related functions such as participating in recruitment, assisting with clinical orientation and ongoing training, functioning as preceptor in direct patient care training programs, delivering competency evaluations, collaborating with Clinical Manager and Education Coordinator on quality standards and education, providing coaching and developmental support, and ensuring communication regarding training and organizational development.Education and communication duties include partnering with RN and IDT staff to educate personnel on facility water system integrity and environmental safety, ensuring strong communication processes, implementing educational programs, scheduling training, monitoring patient care delivery through CQI, and ensuring compliance with business policies and ethical practices.Patient related duties include assisting with patient education on adequacy measures, welcoming patients, evaluating vascular access, obtaining vital signs and weights, performing cannulation and administration of Heparin, initiating and monitoring dialysis treatment, documenting treatment and patient condition, and reporting significant changes.Infection control specialization involves assisting with audits, acting as change agent for infection control practices, reinforcing adherence to policies, supporting staff and patient engagement, participating in education responses to surveys, and educating new patients and families.Maintenance and technical duties include maintaining environmental integrity, cleaning and disinfecting equipment, preparing for dialysis treatment, performing machine alarm testing, initiating solution delivery systems, cleaning blood spills, and managing supplies.Record keeping duties include participation in CQI activities, entering treatment data, reviewing treatment sheets, preparing patient charts, lab requisitions, and ensuring proper lab specimen handling.Physical demands include desk and computer work, patient interaction, travel between facilities, exposure to healthcare environment conditions, heavy lifting and moving patients, frequent standing and bending, and occasional moving of heavy equipment with assistance.Education and licenses required include a high school diploma or GED (bachelor's preferred), CMS-approved certification or meeting certification requirements, appropriate state licensure and training, commitment to FMS culture and values, participation in preceptor training, and skill-based training attendance.Experience required includes at least five years patient care experience in hospital or related facility preferred, successful completion of FMCNA dialysis training program, and CPR certification.
